Hike Leader Program & Recognition
- Hike leaders planned and organized the following events in December: Kenna Hike & Social (Frith & Sheila x 1, Kevin & Erika x 2, Monika x 2), Mara Mountain West Approach (Sam & Katherine), Lodgepole (Monika & Roy), Lyons Lake (Sam), Lac Du Bois Grasslands (Monika & Erika), Westsyde Hills (Bunny & Maureen) & Stake Lake – Bushwacker (Monika & Roy).
- Kudos to Bunny & Maureen for scouting out a new trail in the Westsyde Hills and for Sam who took up up to Mara on a challenging & rewarding route.
- A special thanks to Sheila & Frith who took us on a Kenna hike followed by a pre-Christmas social & lunch at Duffy’s.
- Thank you to all our volunteer Leaders who continue to plan and lead fantastic events for our club. You can see the events that were posted by going to Past Events and 2023 Events Grouped by Month
Events Program
- In the last 12 months we averaged 20 events per month and have posted 237 events for 2023.
- We had 11 events posted in December that were well attended.
- Local trails are great for hiking at the moment and a reminder that the Pineview Trails are closed.
- We’ve been using our cleats when needed and a few of us pulled out our snowshoes when we went to Stake Lake (Bushwacker). We’ll use our snowshoes when we head up to Sun Peaks – McGillivray Lake Snowshoe on Sunday, January 7th and when we get more snow.
- Hike Leaders are planning some backpacks & camp & hikes for the summer. These events generally require leader registration which is indicated and detailed in the event postings. The event posting will also detail the duration, difficulty & the distances of the hikes and other pertinent details (expectations campsite booking requirements, carpooling, etc.) to ensure the event is successful.
- We are always looking for eager volunteers to step up and become leaders and co-leaders:
- Leaders plan, organize & post events and co-leaders help the leader execute a fun & safe event.
- If you are interested please check out the Hike Leader Program & Resources information and/or contact Monika Taki the KHC Hike Leader Liaison for more information.
