June 2024 Newsletter
Website Updates
- We are still trying to determine how we can add the ability for members to cancel their own event bookings and to display all their event bookings as the list currently display just one event on the new website (kamloopshikingclub.ca) As a workaround, members can post a comment in the event to let the leader know they need to cancel their event until we resolve the issue as indicated in Cancel an Event Booking which is under the Your Account menu option.
- A reminder to all members that everyone needs to set up a password for the new website.
- In the Login section select Lost your Password? or from the website menu go to Your Account, Recover Password
- In the Recover Password section enter your username or email and you will receive a link via email to reset your password.
- After login press View Site on the bluehost screen to get to the KHC website landing page.
- We’ve added 2 widgets to the landing page to display & separate out Backpacks and Camps and Other Hikes (Tours).
- Hiking Tours are a type of outing that may involve driving out of town, or on backroads, or up a mountain road. There may be a trail, but it may be a route, or it may be an off-trail route. Some may be in backcountry areas, requiring better planning and preparation. An end time can’t be easily predicted for these kinds of outings. Each outing will be uniquely different and the event listing should provide enough information, including links to more information. Contact the hike leader for more information
Board Updates
- We sent out a Survey to all members to help the board members understand the interests of all of our members. If you did not receive the survey, please check your Spam/Junk/Promotion folder or click on the ‘Take Survey’ link on the website so that you can complete & submit the survey.
- A combined newsletter will be sent out at the beginning of September for July/Aug as the club is generally quiet during the summer months with events and board meetings.
- Vendor Discounts – Several local vendors offer the club discounts and we are in the process of updating the information on the Vendor Discounts page on the website.
- The next board meeting is September 16th, 6 pm.

Events Program
- We had 17 events posted in May. Only 2 events were fully booked and two SNO (Short Notice Outing) events went ahead with just the person planning the event and one event was cancelled/deleted because of low attendance. May had some rainy days so a few events were rescheduled to ensure the event(s) were a safe & pleasant.
- We have volunteer Hike leaders that post events when they can and we also have 3 groups that try to book regular events for Tuesday (Wanderers), Wednesday (Ramblers) and Sunday (Trekkers). If you are interested in becoming a hike leader or if you want to join one of the groups please check out the Hike Leader Program & Resources information and/or contact Monika Taki the KHC Hike Leader Liaison.
