Description
J & J stands for Jade Lakes, and Joss Mtn. We plan to do these two awesome day hikes on the same weekend and stay overnight in a motel, or campground, in Revelstoke. Participants to book their own accommodations (we will decide on which motel later). If you decide to camp at the Parks Canada campsite at Snowforest reservation date is January 17th, but no tents are allowed in this campground due to bear activity. The leaders of this trip (Margo, Doug, Sheila) will be staying in a motel in Revelstoke for the nights of 24th and 25th as we are coming from another trip.
Jade Lakes is a gorgeous hike in Mount Revelstoke National Park (parks pass required). The hike has minimal elevation gain at the beginning but once you pass Miller/Eva lakes junction the trail gets steep and challenging, across some rocky sections. Elevation/loss gain is about 1200 m if you go down to the lakes, but we will go as far as the top of the pass viewpoint and not drop down to the lake and hike back up. We may do a side trip into Miller/Eva lakes on the way back. Total distance +/- 20 km so a full day. Then stay overnight.
Joss Mtn is a hike just outside Revelstoke by 3 Valley Gap. This is a new one to the leaders. The trail starts with a steep climb for 2 km through the forest to the sub alpine. From there is a scenic ridge walk to the summit following flagging tape. Total distance 9.2 km; 815 m elevation.
The access is up Wap FSR by 3 Valley Gap. 6 km on a good gravel road to Wap Spur road #5 which is good for any SUV or truck over the last 10 km. A full day hike before driving back to Kamloops.
If you decide not to overnight on the 24th in Revelstoke it will be an early start from Kamloops (0600) to drive to Revelstoke to meet the group, about 2 1/2 hrs drive.
Accommodations in Revelstoke – Grizz Hotel, downtown, close to everything. Please book your own rooms. If you are camping please let me know which campsite you will be in.
