Description
This base camp will be based out of Little Elbow campground, just west of Bragg Creek at the east side of K-Country. Drivetime from Kamloops is about 6.5 hours. The campground is close to Calgary so campsites will be hard to get, hence we will keep the group small. Reservations open for this campground Monday April 29th. The campsite has no services except water, pit toilets and firepits. There are several other campsites in the area for back up plans, but no roofed accommodation close. Participants are responsible for their own campsite reservations and we will work out carpooling closer to the date.
Proposed hikes are 3 trails, two right out of the campground, and the other a short drive and carpool to do a traverse. No hwb or 4×4 necessary – a good gravel road. Hikes proposed: Nihahi Ridge leaves right out of the campground and is a 5 km, 753 m out and back hike to a beautiful ridge. Forgetmenot Ridge, also out of the campground, is a long ridge which has a short 2.5 km 300 m climb to the ridge itself and then we wander as far as we wish before turning back. The other hike is the traverse of Jumpingpound Ridge, a 12 km traverse with elevations of around 450 m over the ups and downs. We will leave a car at Jumpingpound Summit trailhead, and start at Dawson trailhead.
I have done these trails many times but quite a few years ago. The trails were then really well established so I don’t expect any changes there. There will be no snow left at this time of year but it could be bug season. You will need to reserve 4 nights at the campsite, Sunday July 28th (drive day from Kamloops) through to 31st, drive home on August 1st.
Participants are Sheila, Sharon Peters, Sasha Lees, Tracy Clarke, Lawrence Barichello, Margo Mercier, and Doug Morris on this event.
This trip is now full.
** Reservations open for Little Elbow campground (front country) on Monday April 29th. at 0800 pacific standard time. Make sure you have an Alberta Parks account before you start to book. A very popular campground so get on the site early. Everyone is responsible for their own reservations.

Would anyone want to carpool with me?
