The KHC Schedule of Events
With new members signing up, it may be helpful to summarize how events are chosen and published.
- All events are chosen by volunteer hike leaders with the details of dates, locations, distances, routes, etc. at their discretion.
- Some leaders are retired or work shifts, so they can pick the days that work for them. Some work regular Monday to Friday weeks so the dates are usually Saturdays or Sundays.
- From time to time, a hike leader may choose to lead an after-work hike on a weekday when the days of light are long enough.
- Leaders pick the group size according to their own judgement. In some cases, a group may be enlarged if a co-leader volunteers her/his time.
- KHC would like to have more events, especially on the weekends, but this depends on a volunteer stepping forward to organize the event.
- Hike leaders can do all of the work of posting the event on the website on their own. Any new leader needing assistance to post an event can ask another leader for help.
- There are periods in the year when leaders are traveling, backpacking, or doing other seasonal activities, so the schedule varies from month-to-month.
- Leaders are encouraged to add enough detail to allow members to choose the events to register for. Members can contact the hike leader for more information.
- A few events will listed as Harder or Difficult so members are reminded to pick events that match their fitness and experience. If in doubt, contact the hike leader.
- Easier hikes are a welcome addition, but we first need hike leaders willing to organize them. Members are encouraged to get a group together and contact a hike leader to post the event.
- The best way to ensure a place on an event is ensured is to check the website regularly.
