Welcome to Kamloops Hiking Club
Thanks for joining the Kamloops Hiking Club. We hope to see you on the trails in the 2024/2025 season.
Booking into an Event
- Log in with your account and open an event from Upcoming Events.
- Read the event listing carefully.
- Scroll to the bottom of the event details to book the event.
- If the event is already full, you can’t book into the event.
- The website database tracks how many spaces are open in an event for us and adjusts automatically for new bookings and cancellations.
- There is no waiting list system. Hike leaders do not contact members if spaces open.
- The website only displays names of logged-in users to protect privacy.
- The event will only show the names of the person who booked into the event, but not how many places he/she booked.
- You may add comments to an event if you wish (if comments are enabled for the event).
Contact Us for Help
- Send a message to: websitehelp@kamloopshikingclub.net if you need assistance with the website (logging in, booking an event, changing your profile, etc.)
- Refer to Website Help & Instructions for additional information on how to use the website.
- If you need details about a particular upcoming event contact the Hike Leader listed in the event.
A Club Run by Volunteers
All of our leaders are volunteers who do what they can to organize the Club and numerous outdoor events for the Club’s members. Each leader has different interests, time availability, expertise, and her/his own style. This results in some very different events throughout the year.
Edit Your Profile (password, email, phone, etc.)
Although we ask for registration information when a new member signs up, we ask each member to update their profile at the start and then whenever changes are needed. This is especially important for your contact information if there is an accident out on the trails. We need an active email address, and your phone number (especially if you are late or lost). You can also change your password and specify how you want your name displayed.
- Login to the website with your username and password.
- Go to Your Account on the menu bar and select Edit your Profile.
- Update your password, email, phone number, emergency contact, display name, etc.
Events Range in Difficulty
When you hike (snowshoe, backpack, paddle) on your own you have your own sense of easy, moderate, and difficult. You may find that a number of hikes with KHC will probably be a bit harder. Some of our leaders and long-term members have been hiking for decades and their events reflect their interests. We also have some leaders that enjoy off-trail hiking and scrambling. This is a fun experience for some, but it may not be for everyone. Our leaders know hundreds of routes and the right season to do them. Members, though, must carefully read the listing to make sure it is the right match for their abilities, fitness, and interests. Some events are clearly moderate and suitable for all members and if you are not sure, contact the hike leader. For more details go to Event Info on the Menu Bar and select Difficulty of Events.
Events Fill Up
Events will fill up (some slowly and some quickly) and renewing members know to check the website often and to book a space early. Once an event is full your best chance is to watch for cancellations. No one keeps waiting lists and we don’t have the time or interest to do so. We would love to have enough spaces for everyone that is interested, but we just don’t have that kind of volunteer manpower.
- Check the website often.
- Register for events (but cancel online if you can’t make it)
- Challenge yourself.
- Meet people and make new friends.
- The value of your membership depends on your participation
We Hike all Year Around
We snowshoe when the trails get buried, but we hike right up to the winter snowfalls and as soon as the trails clear (in February or March).
Other Events
We snowshoe, backpack, camp, paddle, and meet up all year, posting between 225 and 275 annually over the last few years.
