Registration Status Tips
A News Article to help understand event registration:
- Some Leaders organize events in the next two weeks and then post the event, enabling registration right away. With small groups, these events fill up quickly and the only way to see the event openings is to check the listings every day. While the epidemic is on, anyone who checks the listings infrequently will rarely see an event opening, except for an occasional cancellation.
- Some Leaders organize events far into the upcoming months, but are reluctant to open registration too far in advance since the dates, times, locations, or circumstances may change. The events are usually posted as Future Draft Events and registration is not opened. For members, it is a guessing game as to when to watch for open registration (until now)! For any single page event listing (click on event to see the event page), there are two new fields:
- Registration Status – with preset options for the hike leader (contact the hike leader, registration enabled, not yet open, etc.)
- Registration Notes – a blank field for the hike leader to use (ie “registration open on June 23rd” or “contact me in July”, etc.)
- This is new so it may take hike leaders a while to start using these options.
- Leaders have a number of options for registration for their events, including setting a date for registration to open on a scheduled time, setting a date for closing of registration (and cancellation), the number of spaces per booking (1 or 2 usually), and the total size of the group.
- Events scheduled far into the future are considered tentative and registration would normally be opened much closer to the event once details are finalized. The exception to this practice are backpacks and camps that require reservations months in advance, and in National Parks, even a year in advance. These are usually first posted in late fall and winter and usually full before spring. All current members will have a chance to book into these over the winter.
