Newsletter – Feb. 1, 2026
As the end of the 2025 – 2026 membership year approaches, we would like to thank our hike leaders and participating club members for a good year on the trails. Memberships expire at the end of the month, but renewals are available now. Starting Feb. 15, new members can sign up for the upcoming year – Mar. 1, 2026 to Feb. 28, 2027. A button-link will be displayed on the front page of the website which can be clicked to get the information and complete the process (register, waiver, fee).
As always we are looking for more hike leaders or co-leaders, so if you can help out, please contact us. Our thanks to the leaders who posted events in January – Monika, Erika and Kevin, Liz and Ian, Brian, Chris and Carla, Doug, and Darlene.
Events are still being posted to the website for members to enjoy. Events for the next month are displayed in the main column. On the widget on the right sidebar (scroll down on a mobile), we have two widgets. The first shows the backpacks, camp and hikes, and paddling outings. They tend to fill up early, so check there regularly. In a second widget are a list of Tentative Events. These often require travel and may be different in various ways from regular local events. Members can express interest in a Tentative Event with a comment or by contacting the hike leader. The tentative events can later be moved to the main list if there is enough interest, or they can be removed if not. Any hike leader can list a Tentative Event. Any member could also ask a hike leader to post a specific event to see if there is any interest.
By the middle-end of February there will be some hikes on dry trails in the valley or on the lower slopes of the hills. Higher trails around the valley may be icy or muddy until the middle of March. Hikes will mostly be set for drier trails.
Some upcoming dates are noted in a website widget – Feb. 1 – Membership renewals, Feb. 15 – New memberships start, Feb. 29 – 2025/26 memberships expire, Mar. 1 – Backpackers seminar/gear swap, and Apr. 5 – KHC AGM. The latter two will be posted as events on the website.
KHC can post other event activities besides hiking, snowshoeing, and backpacking. A couple of paddling events are now listed, and more can be added. We can also add walks on City trails, outings on bikes, trail running, combined activities (paddle and hike, for example), scrambling, and there are other possibilities. Any of these needs a volunteer leader to organize an event so if you can help, please contact us.
See you on the trails in the upcoming year.
