Newsletter – July 1, 2025
Our thanks to all the hike leaders and active members who went out on posted events in the month of June. There were 17 events in the month, led by 7 leaders/leader groups. Hiking trails were located in the Dewdrop Range, Trophy Mountain, Rose Hill, Wells Gray Park, Lundbom Grasslands, Herald Park, Kenna Cartwright Park, Rose Hill, Sunrise Mountain, Red Plateau, Shuswap Lake, and Embleton Mountain.
As summer sets in we will see more destination hikes, backpacks, or camp-and-hike events as we travel to hiking routes out of town. Some local hikes will still be posted, but many of our volunteer leaders will be on holiday or off hiking in other parts of the province.

Is there a particular hike you would like to do? Another way to add new events could be to organize a small group. Here is how it might work. Pick a hike and a preferred date and time. Collaborate with a couple of other members to start a small group. Contact a hike leader or send us an email and we will try to find a hike leader for you for that date. Alternately, the small group and potential leader can pick another date. The leader will post the event and open it for registration, which is an invitation for others to join in.
Leaders can come up with ideas, but they don’t always pan out. The event is listed and may not be be of interest to members. Hosting an event is guesswork for the leaders. We can remove the guessing by having small groups pick a hike and then we can help by finding someone to lead the small group (which could also expand to a larger group). This is worth trying so members are encouraged to help out.

In the past KHC has had paddling, cycling, walking, and trail running outings and these could still be posted for members if we have a volunteer willing to organize the event. Most events at this time are hikes, backpacking, camp-and-hikes, and snowshoeing. Our core program is hiking and we continue to offer a number of outings each month.
As summer progresses we may see conditions change. If it becomes very hot or too smoky, events may be changed or cancelled so check back to the event listing.

We look forward to seeing you on the trails this summer.
