Kamloops Hiking Club hosted 14 events in October to Sun Peaks, the Lower Rose Trails, Enderby Cliffs, Batchelor Hills, Roche Lake backcountry, Kalamalka Lake, Kenna Cartwright Park, the Marble Range, Blind Bay Bluffs, Peterson Creek, Six Mile Hills, and Greenstone Mountain. Our thanks to Ian and Liz, Sheila, Monika Doug, Matt, Sasha, Sam, Erika and Kevin. With changeable weather ahead, hike leaders may choose to do short-notice postings of events, and all upcoming events are subject to weather and driving conditions. We will continue with fall hiking for another month, then there will be days where spikes will be needed, and by winter we will be snowshoeing.
KHC has 137 members. Registration for membership is still open and we added one new member in October (welcome to Sharon). Memberships for 2025 run through to the last day of February, 2026. At that time everyone has to decide to join again (or not). We require a new waiver each year and an annual membership fee (needed for insurance, affiliation, and website costs). It is likely that the membership fee will remain the same for 2026.
KHC’s main program offers hiking, backpacking/camp-and hike, and snowshoeing. Although we can offer paddling, cross-country skiing, and cycling, we have had no leaders offering these kinds of outings this year. We have also had less social events this year. We formerly had leaders willing to organize potlucks, day camps, and meetings, but at this time, the Board and hike leaders have chosen a low-key approach. We anticipate a winter bonfire and hot dog roast at Lodgepole Lake, then late-winter/early spring hike and social/AGM. Anyone wanting to offer other activities should contact a member of the Board (Contact Us).
KHC runs most of its program through the website. The site has been stable and working for most of the year. Sometimes members have trouble logging in, but there is a lost password link, there is a Help link on the website and all members are reminded to clear their browser cache from time to time (search “clear cache (browser name)” to see how to do this. Even web developers need to clear their cache after updates.
Can KHC do more? We can return to doing more of the things we have done in the past and we can do new things, but it is always a challenge to find someone to step forward. Board members and hike leaders have been volunteering their time for years and have settled into some reasonable limits. New leaders and new Board members are welcome and fresh events and programs are appreciated.
Many of us hike several days a week and do some hiking with KHC. There are many more trails and routes to add to KHC’s events over the winter and into the spring. We hope to see you on the trails.
