The hike leader program has been simplified to make it easier for potential leaders and their mentors to complete the process.
- Potential hike leaders start as Co-Leaders by contacting a hike leader/mentor.
- Co-leaders assist a leader for a number of events (the actual number will depend on the person’s background).
- The mentor will provide some informal discussion and support roles, mostly during hikes. The co-leader can choose to go on other hikes with other leaders to get more experience.
- When the mentor and co-leader think enough hands-on experience has been done, they should contact a Board member.
- After a bit of discussion, the Co-Leader can become a leader and her/his website credentials can be upgraded accordingly.
- The new leader is encouraged to invite the mentor and other leaders on some hikes for support, as needed.
