KHC Newsletter – September 1, 2026
Welcome to September!
It has been a hot and smoky summer. We think of our neighbours and all those in BC who have been affected by the fires. It has been challenging to get out there and enjoy the trails with the air quality index but events were held when possible. Hoping you were able to get away and enjoy all the summer activities British Columbia and Canada have to offer.
You may have noticed we had some issues with our website. Thank you to Doug Smith and Doug Morris for sorting out the glitches and getting it back on line. Did you notice on our website, on the home screen, near the bottom we have a great little feature outlining the current weather and it has the air quality index alerts there too.
Thank you to the Wanderers who have consistently tried to do a weekly morning hike at Kenna Cartwright Park and to our other leaders who have led hikes on trails in the area. Recently there have been hikes to Embleton, a backpacking adventure to Glacier National Park where they completed the Asulkan Valley Hike, Abbott Ridge Hike, and the Jade Lakes Hike, visits to Tod Mountain at Sun Peaks, and Trophy Meadows.
If you haven’t taken a look in recent days, there are some fall hikes being posted. Definitely a favourite time of year to take on the trails! If you sign up for a hike and the meet up location is unclear, they are listed on the website. Go to Home >KHC Event Info >Meet Up Spots. There are quite a few listed for all directions leaving Kamloops. As a reminder, try and get to the meet up location 5-10 minutes early so carpooling can be sorted out if needed….and the event will start on time. Remember to look at your essentials to have what you need on the trails taking the weather (and its changes) into account as we change seasons.
Thought it would be fun to highlight some snack ideas for the trail…. trail snacks aren’t just food—they’re fuel that can make or break your hiking experience. Packing the right snacks will keep you powering up those switchbacks and/or enjoy when you have reached the view…of course it is all personal choice but here are the top 5 listed: Beef Jerky, Almonds, Granola, Dried Fruit and/or Protein Bars. Make sure to pack one (or all!) with your fluids – water and/or electrolytes.
Hope to see you on the trails.

Thank you Erica for all your great work for KHC.
