Happy Canada Day
With warmer temperatures, it’s important to hike (and enjoy all your other outdoor activities too) smart. Choose early morning starts whenever possible, carry plenty of water, wear sun protection, and know your limits. Remember that conditions can change quickly, so always check the weather forecast before heading out and be prepared to adjust your plans if needed. Did you know our website has a link and shows the current weather conditions for Kamloops at a glance?
Please visit the website often to see which events are offered. If signing up for an event, please check back to see if any of the details have changed….start time, meeting location. If your plans have changed, please manage your availability. I just learned this, if wanting to cancel an event and you are on your phone, but don’t see where you can do this, turn your device sideways as it gives you more options on the right hand side of the screen. Once logged in, it will say “manage my bookings”, this is where you may need to turn your device and you will see “actions”. Please keep your sign-ups current as many of the events have participant limits and while there is no waiting list available, there are other interested people who may want to join and are checking back often to see if there is room!
With the summer weather, many of us are enjoying summer vacation plans – the cabin at the lake, travel plans abroad or camping and this includes many of our hiking leaders. If you have ever thought about leading a hike or if there is an area you would like to explore and would like to bring some old or new friends with you, now is a great time to get involved! You don’t need to be an expert mountaineer – we are looking for someone who enjoys hiking, is comfortable on familiar trails and wants to share the experience with others. We have mentors who will help you understand the process and provide support along the way. The more leaders we have, the more hikes we can offer for everyone. Interested? Contact us to learn more about becoming a volunteer hike leader. Please reach out to info@kamloopshikingclub.net
We are also looking for someone with website experience to help keep the club’s website up to date and help with the glitches we sometimes experience. Whether you have experience with WordPress, web design or simply enjoy maintaining online content, we would love your help! Please reach out to info@kamloopshiking.net
HAPPY HIKING and because it is the season, KAYAKING or PADDLEBOARDING!
Thank you you to all of our members and volunteers for making our club such a welcoming community. Whether you are leading, hiking, or helping behind the scenes, your contributions keep our club moving forward! If you would like to see pictures or information of the past events and have Facebook, please reach out to join Kamloops Hiking Club (members only) or follow us on Instagram, Kamloops_hiking_club. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the trails and water!
